The Bay Pony Inn at Lederach, located in North-central Montgomery County, owes much of it's rich history to the descendants of Andrew Lederach, a Swiss immigrant who settled the town in 1717. In 1830, his great-grandson built The Lederach Hotel which the Bay Pony Inn now occupies.
Longing to preserve the quaint character of Lederach's village, area resident/ businessman and former White House Cabinet member Drew Lewis purchased several of its historic buildings in 1987, among them, the Bay Pony Inn. His intent to restore the Inn's colonial atmosphere and bring a lost style of gracious country dining to the area revived the Bay Pony.
The Inn reopened in November of 1988 with four separate and unique dining rooms. The Lederach Room has kept it's colonial charm and the Harriman Dining Coach returns you to stately dining elegance, circa 1890. The Governor's compartment hosts private parties to 10. Additionally, the spacious Salford Room, accommodating parties to 125, and affords a view of the peaceful Branch Valley countryside.
Today there are few inns that excel the Bay Pony Inn in the seriousness of its restoration and the careful selection of its materials. Guests are singularly impressed with its quiet beauty. The Bay Pony features that rarity among country inns...subdued elegance, beguiling charm and modern conveniences, seldom found in early American inns.
